Cameron Crowe might director We Bought a Zoo

A couple months ago, there were rumors that director Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire) was interested in directing an adaptation of Benjamin Mee’s bestselling memoir We Bought a Zoo. ComingSoon has noticed that some of Crowe’s regular crew (for instance, production designer Clay Griffith) have recently been hired for the production, which 20th Century Fox has now set a release for on December 23th 2011. This pretty much confirms that the project is Crowe’s next.

I know it's a remake of “Abre los ojos” and it may be better, but that doesn't mean I like Vanilla Sky any less. I wouldn't say Crowe is on a backslide, yet. Vanilla Sky was at the very least, financially successful, while Elizabethtown wasn't. You could say Vanilla Sky was his 'The Village' (which I liked) and that Elizabethtown was his 'Lady In The Water'. Hopefully for us, and Crowe especially, he isn't following up with his 'The Happening' and that this is one of those 'one for them' projects.

Gah, whats up with aaaall these animal movies lately?

I saw 'Crowe' and the stupid haircut and automatically thought Russell Crowe was directing.

Just throwing this out there, but. Vanilla sky is a remake to a better movie, which was probably the start of his backslide.

Crowe needs to hop out of the box and find his center again. I know the man has some talent still.

I've really liked or absolutely loved all of his films up to and including Vanilla Sky, but Elizabethtown was a real disappointment. With such a long gap between films, I was seriously expecting an original film from Crowe, like a Music Biopic, or follow in the footsteps of Scorsese and Demme and make a Concert film, or even a Music Documentary like Runnin' Down A Dream by Bogdanovich, but certainly not an adaptation about a Zoo. I just hope it's good, successful and allows him to make something more personal.
