Wes Craven has premiered the official teaser poster for Scream 4 in Entertainment Weekly. The poster doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming sequel, the first part of a new trilogy written by screenwriter Kevin Williamson. The one-sheet shows a close-up of the Ghostface mask and features the tagline “New Decade. New Rules.” And the letter A in the Scream logo has been turned into a red number 4. Check out the full poster after the jump, along with some new information on the film from Craven.

    What the f*** is this?

  2. Josh says:

I hope the killer in Scream 4 is a punctuation Nazi. Who beats people to death with a giant full stop.

i am soo friggen excited the scream movies are my favorite slasher flicks of all time they were geniuse the first one especially scared me soo much i remember the first time i saw it my sister rented it i think i was maybe nine or ten and after i saw it i dont think i answered the phone for a week they were more than just scary tho they were extremely funny really cool i love all the little references to other scary movies i cant wait to see what comes next

ps im also very interested in the nightmare remake and after its release i think it would be cool to hear what wes thinks about it

I thought of that months ago when they announced they wanted to use social networking, Ring/Jap horror movies, etc.

    That's how I'd do it :)

  5. mbellerbrock says:

Sounds cool, other than the Zuckerberg part, but it feels a bit too Kick-Assey.

  6. mbellerbrock says:

    Win.

  7. mbellerbrock says:

You do realize Scream was, to a certain degree, always intended to be a parody of horror films?

That's what makes Scary Movie so ironic, it's a parody of a parody.

  8. Josh says:

Of course this isn't going to be an awesome poster. They don't start production til June and they don't want to give anything away, which leaves just the ghostface mask. The tagline is probably the most important thing since it gives people the direction they're going with this movie.

  9. Someguy says:

It should be about pointless horror remakes.

  10. Slatters says:

Is it because its a picture of, you know, just a mask?

  11. Slatters says:

    You just described the 90's.

  12. pathosperks says:

    Very apt guesstimate.

All three movies' killers (minus Rosanne's sister) were directly connected to films; The movie buffs, the film student, the director. Their motives were directly linked to not only tropes of horror movies, their sequels, and trilogies, but also the zeitgeist. I would be HIGHLY surprised if the killer in this one is not something similar.

I would not be surprised to see an actor/writer connected to wanting to 'reboot' the franchise because of failed sequels, like you said, or an author (Gale?) whom has a symbiotic relationship with the events looking to become relevant again after their star has faded.

(In that case though, the killer should be Neve Campbell…Playing Neve Campbell.)

Scream has always been a current social commentary while cleverly parodying cliches (irony) and both of those would be relevant in this era while fitting with it's theme.

I totally agree with Peter in hoping the meta actors-playing-actors is over. Scream 3 really was a mess, and it being structured around STAB was a big part of it.

I never followed this series or the 'Scary Movie' series, but this, to me, a casual observer, does not look scary. It looks funny. Sorta silly. Like a comedy.

  14. christophebergman says:

I hope they cover 9/11 and the subsequent death of irony.

  15. Captain Kilowatt says:

You sir, should be hired based on this idea alone.

  16. Cartman86 says:

Really curious what this and Cabin in the Woods have to say new.

  17. dan says:

How much you wanna bet that a producer starts killing as Ghostface just to spark life into the Stab series again. And he mentions a “reboot” with a fresh new cast.

  18. thatguyrom says:

Am I the only one who thinks that poster looks kinda low budget-ish?

  19. anthony256 says:

i am so psyched about this.

i've had the idea that ghost face is on facebook.

he uploads pics of the dead bodies / kills and TAGS the victim.
victim is tagged and their friends see that they're dead.

news gets around the ghostface killer is back… sidney/dewey/gale get contacted about it and put into witness protection/moved location.

killer keeps knocking people off, putting the pictures/blog about it on myspace. takes a bit of a laugh at the “social” networking like they promised.

they figure it could be mark zuckerberg (giving facebook a plug = $$$) and it gives an inside joke to the current 400, 000, 000 user base FB has.

they detain him and ghostface strikes again, killing someone else.

the final showdown should be a LIVE webcam with sidney killed at a pre-determined time, they have to work out who it is and stop it before it happens.

  20. Nick says:

the twist, Ghostface Killer is actually GhostFace Killa.

  21. The Green Gobbler says:

Just re-watched the first one the other day. Feels crusty and tame.

  22. isi123 says:

    Wow, So creative….

  23. starscream9289 says:

I wouldn't mind if that's what this movie was all about.

    WAZZZAAAAAHHPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Scott says:

    That's gold Yoji! Gold!

  25. carg0 says:

i still can't believe they're making another one.

  26. Thor says:

Since I watched Scary Movie I can't take the Ghostface mask serious anymore. Now all I think about is Marlon Wayans getting high with Ghostface and I start to laugh my ass off.

  27. Yoji says:

    Can't wait for 5cream and S6ream!

  28. [A] says:

awww the nose looks like a little heart.
