Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell Join ‘Scream 4?

Kristen Bell“Veronica Mars” star Kristen Bell and “True Blood” actress Anna Paquin have joined the cast of Scream 4.

According to USA Today and confirmed by Dimension Films, the two blondes will only appear in a cameo for the Wes Craven sequel.  The series typically opens with a named celebrity being slashed in the opening minutes, such as Drew Barrymore’s untimely demise at the start of the original.  Since the sequel has already been shooting for weeks now, does this mean late additions Bell and Paquin will meet the same fate?

The Hollywood Reporter writes “those in the know” say that is the case in Craven’s “top secret script” that has reportedly ballooned to 140 pages (roughly two and a half hours) and the shoot has extended an extra three weeks.  I wouldn’t want to be the editor.

The cast includes franchise regulars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette, and new victims Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Marielle Jaffe, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Erik Knudsen, Anthony Anderson, Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, Alison Brie and Mary McDonnell.

Scream 4 is scheduled for April 15, 2011.

Scream 4 teaser posterDimension is beginning to cast Scream 4, the next installment of Wes Craven’s slasher series intended to start a new horror trilogy with a new set of rules.

Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Hayden Panettiere (”Heroes”), Rory Culkin (the youngest brother of Macaulay), and Lake Bell (”How to Make it in America”) have all been approached and offered roles in the sequel.  THR reports only Bell is in negotiations.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are all set to reprise their roles that will likely hand off the series to the new cast.

Greene would play Campbell’s cousin, Jill, and the central heroine (similar to Campbell’s Sidney role in the first three films).  Panettiere would fill the movie geek part, a sort of meta role in the same vein as Jamie Kennedy’s Randy character.  Culkin would play a potential love interest for Jill.  Bell is negotiating to play a police officer who knew Sidney from high school.

Kevin Williamson (Scream, Scream 2) wrote the script and is contracted for a fifth.  To keep the plot twists a secret, the script is not being sent to agencies which is making for a slow and difficult process.

Greene recently signed for a fourth (and probably fifth) installment of the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn, shooting this fall.  After playing hardball with Summit, she’s reportedly making .25 million for each of the vampire sequels which means her reps will be shopping a higher quote as she breaks out of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s shadow.  NBC canceled “Heroes” this month, so Panettiere’s schedule is free to take on more movie roles.  Both were rumored as replacements for Megan Fox in Transformers 3.

Craven starts shooting this July for a release on April 15, 2011.
