Dinner for Schmucks co-stars Steve Carell and Zach Galifianakis have wasted no time in scheduling more comedies for themselves. Carell is finishing his final season as the awkward boss in “The Office,” which frees his schedule considerably, and the offbeat comedian Galifianakis is riding a hot streak from his breakout role in The Hangover.
DreamWorks, who was one of the partners on Schmucks, has purchased a pitch for a film called Reply All from Galifianakis, who will produce and star in the comedy according to Deadline. As you can probably guess, it’s about a man who hits “reply all” to an indiscreet email and faces the consequences. He’s an undeniably hilarious guy, but when will audiences tire of the lovable, kooky weirdo? Hopefully we’ll see more from him on this.
Meanwhile, Carell had not one but two films announced this week. The first is a movie called Raised by Wolfs (sic), a comedy that plays on the last name of the main character (a la Meet the Fockers). Lee Firestein (”In Living Color”) wrote the script, reports THR.
The other is a bit more intriguing. It reteams Carell with the directors of Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, for The Abstinence Teacher, a comedy about a sex ed teacher (played by Sandra Bullock) who falls for her daughter’s born-again soccer coach (Carell). The two bond over their disparate belief systems in the small town of Stonewood Heights. Those wondering when we’d see more of Carell’s dramatic chops will only have to wait until this is finally made. It has been in development since the book was published in 2007, according to Production Weekly (via the Playlist).
Coincidentally, the directing duo is already working on Will with Galifianakis and yet another Schmuck, Paul Rudd. Will Ferrell and frequent collaborator Adam McKay are producing.
Here are the two in another uncomfortable installment of Zach’s “Between Two Ferns” from Funny or Die:
